SPC stands for stone plastic composite (also called stone polymer composite). It's a rigid-core vinyl flooring made by pressing natural limestone powder together with PVC and stabilizers into a dense, rigid board — then topping it with a printed wood-look film, a clear wear layer, and a protective UV coating. Yes. The limestone-based core doesn't absorb water, so SPC won't swell or warp from spills, pet accidents, or mopping. It's a practical choice for kitchens, bathrooms, basements, mudrooms, and laundry rooms.
SPC is a type of luxury vinyl flooring, but with a rigid stone-plastic core instead of the flexible vinyl core in traditional LVP/LVT. The rigid core makes SPC more dent-resistant and dimensionally stable — it expands and contracts less with temperature changes, so planks stay locked and flat.
Laminate has a wood-based core that swells when exposed to water. SPC's limestone core is waterproof, so it handles moisture far better. Both are floating floors with click-together installation, but SPC is the safer pick anywhere water is a concern.
Both of our products carry the same 20-mil wear layer and attached IXPE pad. The 6.5 mm plank is thicker and more rigid — it feels more solid underfoot and bridges minor subfloor unevenness better. The 5 mm plank is the budget-friendly option and works well over flat, prepared subfloors.
SPC is a floating floor that can often go over hard, flat existing surfaces such as tile, hardwood, or concrete, as long as the subfloor is level and clean. Carpet usually needs to come up first. Since we're supply-only, we recommend having your installer assess the subfloor before ordering.
Routine care is simple: sweep or vacuum regularly and damp-mop as needed. No waxing, sealing, or refinishing required. Avoid abrasive scrubbers, harsh solvents, and steam mops, and use felt pads under furniture legs.
